Surrey will expand its public space for community gatherings, special events, and
celebrations like the Province’s 150th anniversary with a Spirit Square in Holland Park, Premier Gordon Campbell said Feb. 20, announcing $500,000 in provincial support for the project.

"This Square enhances what was Surrey’s first urban park, in a location with pathways
radiating out to the community and links to nearby transit," Premier Campbell said. "This Spirit Square will be a great place for families to gather to enjoy community art, gardens and seasonal events and celebrate events like BC150."

Holland Park is the southern anchor of the city centre, which is undergoing extensive renovations.

The Spirit Square will include a stage to hold public performances and will expand the
park’s plaza area by almost 16,000 square feet, creating a venue capable of hosting events of up to 1,500 people.
