Ladysmith will develop its very own B.C. Spirit Square by revitalizing Market Square, thanks to $500,000 from the provincial government.

Market Square, in Ladysmith’s historic downtown and adjacent to several mainstay buildings, will see the addition of pedestrian pathways and lighting, a retractable event staging space, public art, seating, and historical displays, and will incorporate native species for vegetation.

Local First Nations will be involved in the design of the project.

The funding announcement was made Jan. 31, 2008 by Community Services Minister Ida Chong during a visit to Ladysmith.
