MLA Rick Thorpe presents Province's Spirit Square cheque to Similkameen Country President Carroll MacLean and Keremeos Mayor Walter Despot at Memorial Park.

Keremeos will develop its very own B.C. Spirit Square, thanks to $62,500 from the provincial government.

Located in Memorial Park, the centre of the community and the site of almost all community events, the funding will help create a central gathering place featuring educational resources that highlight the importance of the Great Northern Railway in Keremeos’s history.

The project will incorporate First Nations culture, native plantings, and water conservation landscaping techniques, as well as incorporating new trail networks and the history of valley’s farming communities.

It will also enhance the children’s playground and create a stage area for community events.

The announcement was made Feb. 22 by Rick Thorpe, MLA for Okanagan-Westside and Minister of Small Business and Revenue.
