Houston Mayor Sharon Smith and MLA Dennis MacKAY with $100,000 provincial cheque.
The provincial government is providing $100,000 from the BC Spirit Square Program towards the Houston Energy Centre.
Located in the geographic centre of the community, adjacent to the downtown district, in Jamie Baxter Park, the Spirit Square project, will include an amphitheatre, creating a place for locals and visitors alike to gather and celebrate community events.
The project will also be an energy and earthwise demonstration centre, through the use of solar panel lighting, energy saving electrical systems and landscaping, helping in the Town’s efforts to brand Houston as the "Green Energy Capital of Canada."
The funding was announced Feb. 8 by Bulkley Valley-Stikine MLA Dennis MacKAY.
